Thank you for writing this! It has been top of mind since I attended a neighbor’s birthday party and I felt dread about the expectations being set for my children and I was concerned with how lavish events and presents would shape their sense of self worth and consumption.
Yes I think this is a difficult territory to navigate as parents. The question I’m asking myself all the time is “What are the Sheas about” then figuring out how to get there with some measure of grace. Thanks for this comment and reflection!
